With nearly 24 years of service in the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), I have had the opportunity to work at institutions of varying missions and security levels, in the capacity of correctional education, career technical education, post-secondary (college) and continuing education, student support services and reentry transition programs. I have also served in the capacity of peace officer selection, cadet training and professional development for 60,000 employees statewide.I believe in using data to drive decisions and have been involved in developing Key Performance Indicators for the CDCR Rehabilitative Program Report and the scope of work for new technology projects, etc. I also worked to develop a DRP data dashboard to evaluate the effectiveness of education programs. My strengths, values, ethics, and abilities include initiative, high expectations, excellence, integrity, leadership, project management, organization, coaching and mentorship.I believe that working collaboratively and collegially with the stakeholders and end users is the most effective way to ensure that rehabilitation is meaningful, appropriate and available to justice involved individuals. In closing, the following quote, provides what I believe is a critically important guide on leadership and shared governance: “Ultimately, leadership is not about glorious crowning acts. It's about keeping your team focused on a goal and motivated to do their best to achieve it, especially when the stakes are high and the consequences really matter. It is about laying the groundwork for others' success, and then standing back and letting them shine (Chris Hadfield).”
