Exposure to outside ideas, people, and experiences have the ability to improve one's trajectory both personally and professionally. Our primary goals are to develop life skills, financial literacy, networking and communicative talents, critical thinking and self-awareness resulting in a broader world view. We provide the following services to the students: mentoring, applicable classroom programming, field trips, tangible experiences, special speakers and reading materials. Our hope is that these students will embrace the HIGHER Up Texas program and be willing to step out of their comfort zones to engage outside of their limited view points. This will develop their critical thinking skills and allow for them to embrace differences outside of their norm. Practice of this skill set will be demonstrated via the aforementioned services provided. Our secondary goals are to streamline this group of students on a career/educational path post high school graduation. HIGHER Up Texas will work toward employment, vocational school, community college and four-year universities and assist in navigating and providing scholarships. Students that have successfully completed HIGHER Up Texas will have a network of support/mentors to ensure success in the next chapter post high school completion. Overall, this structure will create the ultimate journey of employment and allow students to become productive members of society.
