As an educator when I reflect on my journey, I've undergone a profound transformation from unlearning to relearning, particularly in transitioning from a traditional approach to embracing the IB(International Baccalaureate) framework. Initially, I had to shift my mindset from a teacher-centric to a child-centric classroom dynamic. This involved releasing responsibility and empowering students to take ownership of their learning journey. Embracing inquiry-based learning was a fundamental shift, moving away from rote memorization towards fostering critical thinking and curiosity-driven exploration. One of the most significant changes was moving from a focus on content overload to prioritizing conceptual understanding. Instead of memorizing facts, students now delve into the underlying concepts, enabling deeper comprehension and application of knowledge. Encouraging a culture of questioning was pivotal in challenging assumptions and fostering diverse perspectives. Shifting the perception of mistakes from something to be feared to opportunities for growth was transformative. Embracing a collaborative classroom environment, both among students and between teachers and students, fostered peer learning and collective problem-solving. Transitioning from passive learning to active engagement and experiential learning created a dynamic and enriching educational experience. Designing assessments focused on conceptual understanding and skills was essential in evaluating holistic learning outcomes. As an educator, I evolved from a teacher to a facilitator, empowering students to take ownership of their learning journey. Through this journey of unlearning and relearning, I continue to evolve and innovate, committed to nurturing lifelong learners equipped to thrive in an ever-changing world.
