Ava Community Energy (formerly East Bay Community Energy) is a public agency that provides power to approximately 2 million people in Alameda County and parts of San Joaquin County in northern California. Ava is made up of 17 members, which include Oakland, Fremont, Livermore, Berkeley, and Stockton and serves approximately 650,000 residential and commercial customers.

I helped launch the agency in 2017 and as COO oversaw power resources, technology & analytics, finance and administrative functions. In 2021, Ava (then EBCE) received an "A" credit rating from S&P Financial.

Lead business development efforts for the Utility team at Sol Systems.

Oversee a team of 10 sales engineers in providing all technical specifications for Solar PV proposals to customers. Upgrade processes, tools, and resources to meet 2x volume in 2016, 1.6GW pipeline.

Manage a U.S. team that works with regional and national solar developer partners to acquire, develop, and construct solar PV assets. Cultivate a channel partner relationship to facilitate repeatable business. Responsible for executing on groundmount, canopy, and rooftop solar PV systems in our commercial and industrial segment and managing project-level P&L.Executed over 50MWs in C&I, totaling $160MM in revenue; Accounted for 30% of the US DG business in 2015 and met annual MW commitments two years in a row Lead contract negotiations on Construction & Development Agreements to scope channel partner relationships. Managed six active portfolio negotiations at a timeImplemented process improvement initiatives to scale execution capabilities, cutting soft costs by 25% y-o-y

1) Reported to the President of the region to execute on 200MW portfolio of solar development assets.Managed several aspects of the downstream development business ranging from tactical to strategic. 2) Led creation of the five-year strategic plan on product and market expansion opportunities for Utility and DG businesses, including a holistic C&I solutions platform termed "Total Solutions Provider" addressing storage, microgrid, energy efficiency, and retail energy provider opportunities.3) Performed interim CFO responsibilities -Completed 2014 annual operating plan-Managed daily cashflow prioritization through year-end -Measured risk and opportunities to track performance on hitting on quarterly MW commitments 4) Ran monthly strategic sessions to address key account management and organizational alignment issues.

Joined SunEdison as the first full-time hire of the Solar Leadership Program, a newly created rotational leadership development program for post-MBA graduates. Established a broader platform for Full-time and Internship recruiting, training, mentorship, budgeting. and performance reviews for program participants. Rotation # 1:Utility Scale - Project Finance1) Closed $22MM subordinated debt facility to bridge between development and construction capital on four projects. Led modeling of this transaction and supported document negotiations. 2) Organized 2013-2014 Portfolio Financing Road Show to solicit $866MM on 232MW (eight projects).3) Closed 15MW, 15yr Sale Leaseback transaction, generating gross profit of $63MM.Rotation #2: Distributed Generation - Commercial Management1) Managed the Massachusetts portfolio of development assets to execute cross-functionally across sales, land dev, ops, procurement, and financing to start construction on 21 projects, totaling 50MW.2) Executed procurement of $12MM for 16 MW of Trina modules to de-risk Q4 Mass portfolio closings.3) Monitored 84MW of planned projects in the 2013 portfolio in order to assess development and construction risk and drive progress on execution.

Led a 10-week project analyzing the opportunity for utility-based energy usage tracking tools.Developed a framework recommending product offerings related to dynamic rate programs and automated energy efficiency, based on expected annual revenues of $90MM and $50MM, respectively.

1) Performed due diligence on principal equity investments in early and mid-stage alternative energy ventures.2) Led and completed full due diligence on a strategic $10MM preferred equity investment in a biomass gasification venture - including analysis on intellectual property, market adoption, and management team risks and financial model. 3) Modeled a $10MM follow-on equity investment in a residential/commercial micro wind turbine venture.4) Amended a term sheet to correct partnership capital account allocations on a $135MM levered tax equity investment in a wind project.

Earned a top performer review and promotion to Associate through the market downturnTeam mandate was to provide product agnostic solutions to our corporate clients that address their evolving issues around capital structure, credit ratings, structured products, risk management, and tax, while partnering across the firm’s banking coverage, trading desks, and product teams.1) Advised top energy, retail, and transportation clients on liquidity and risk management2) Created and launched a portfolio of new products, growing 2008 P&L by 45% to $20MM as part of a four-member team.-Products include credit protection products, public investor accessed lending, supply chain financing, and commodity-linked hedges.-Led initiatives to develop innovative financial products, which included market segmentation, creating business plans, building pricing models, and leading sales presentations to internal bankers, individual clients, and conference attendees.-Built out a corporate finance-based value analysis for our Supply Chain Financing product and trained junior and senior level personnel in our business partnership to own these responsibilitie.3) Advise clients on structuring complex financial transactions, including a $230MM off-balance sheet vehicle to roll-out 3,000 digital movie projectors and a $100MM receivables purchasing vehicle

Earned a top performer review in this team under the CFO's office1) Assessed segment performance and competitor results to drive CEO and CFO initiatives on growth and strategy, including analysis on profitability, expense distribution, trading volatility, and regulatory compliance. 2) Delivered Value-at-Risk (VAR) analysis on $1.5B rev Exotics & Hybrids business to board risk committee.3) Managed a three-person team to produce weekly competitor reports and performance trends on banks/brokers.

Earned a top performer review in this full-time development program. Completed three six-month consulting projects across the firm:1) Worldwide Securities Services - Trust Services Product Management: Completed analysis on market size and new entry opportunity into Argentina. Performed diligence on pricing, market segmentation, profitability, and debt issuance patterns, quantifying early market entry at $3.4MM in annual revenue.2) Investment Bank - High Yield Loan Trading Control Team: Improved accuracy and efficiency of reporting/accounting processes on daily trading performance. Problem solved areas including trading limits/control issues, P&L reporting, fee reconciliation, and billing processes.3) Global Technology Infrastructure - Systems & Services Management Tools: Acted as project manager to produce a marketing catalog for our application tools, identified total cost of ownership to transition to direct cost recovery, and managed Service Level Agreements leading to $7.5MM in savings.
