I lead qualitative research study design, execution of interviews across rural and exurban United States landscapes for the Joint Fire Sciences Program, in conjunction with Oregon State University, University of Wisconsin-Madison, and the USDA Forest Service Rocky Mountain Research Laboratory. This research served as a function of my doctoral candidacy, and involved extensive travel across the country, building community connections with foresters, county, state, and city governance structures; residents and homeowners, as well as small business owners. I focused on social networking and institutional design surrounding the question of rebuilding after natural disasters, particularly wildfire, and led discussions about future planning and mitigation tactics in these coupled human and natural systems. The focus of my research included Institutional analysis, Gender and natural resources, Community rebuilding and recovery, Rural communities, Codes and regulations, Social networks, and Gender in rural communities.
