STGs are operators and electronics technicians responsible for keeping sonar systems and equipment in good operating condition on surface ships. They are responsible for underwater surveillance, and aid in safe navigation and search and rescue operations. They use sonar to detect, analyze and locate targets of interest. In addition to being an operator and technician I am a workcenter supervisor which means I am responsible for the effective operation of the 3-M Systems within the work center. Work center supervisors receive 3-M Systems training and are responsible for scheduling and supervising accomplishment of both preventative and corrective maintenance, writing jobs for contractor assistance, maintaining all proper documentation and files associated with maintenance programs and hazardous materials used within the work center. I stood in as Leading Petty Officer for 7 months while deployed overseas, filling the role in absence of more senior leadership. I supervised a division of 13 personnel ensuring smooth operations for 2 work centers and daily tasking. As a Anti-Terrorism and Force Protection Assistant I maintained records for the ship's crew, wrote schedules for drilling crew watch assignments, matched training and weapons qualifications with appropriate information to maintain duty section standards and drilling watch sections. I was an active member of the Anti-Terrorism Training Team. As a Division in the Spotlight Coordinator I gathered reports from 20 program managers to brief to the ship's chain of command and the division's senior leadership. I also ran the Underwater Acoustic Sound Isolation program.
