I am a freelance consultant in the field of conservation for the built heritage, specializing in the architectural and urban heritage of the Arab region and Islamic cultural identity. I am interested in World Heritage Sites management and conservation, with particular interest in vernacular architecture and am an active member of ICOMOS International Scientific Committee for Vernacular Architecture (CIAV) and elected president since Jan 2021.I am also interested in the modern heritage and the question of modernity vis a vis the cultural identity of place.I am committed to the protection of cultural heritage during armed conflicts, particularly in the Arab region and the Islamic world.I offer specialized translation services from English into Arabic and vice versa in the field of cultural heritage. As I have been working for more than ten years on Arabic terminology of conservation for cultural heritage and published an interim glossary on ICCROM website in 2009. Research, teaching, lecturing and training are significant aspects of my work profile.
