Preparation of UNB Fredericton’s annual operating budget and consolidation budget with UNB Saint John. Review, analyze and communicate budget information.Preparation of UNB Fredericton’s quarterly performance reports and consolidation reports with UNB Saint John. Includes liaising with portfolios on campus for input on individual targets, assessing the data and making predictions for the remaining budget timeframe.Identifying performance anomalies in budgets and areas of spending concern, preparing reports for the senior administration level to aid with corrective action planning. Calculation and reporting of annual carry-forward amounts for all operating accounts on UNB Fredericton campus.Preparation of UNB Fredericton’s annual year end operating report and consolidation with UNB Saint John.Working with various stakeholders to have up to date information available to provide where needed.Primary contact with allocated Faculty & support departments. Preparation of fiscal year end statements, mid-year review, and budgets for the unit. It is a complex department which works in partnership with many faculties on campus. The College has seven cost centers that are consolidated into one overall budget. The nature of the business is entrepreneurial, so detailed budgets and proposals must be prepared to gain new business. The role required the preparation of these budgets for inclusion in client proposals to ensure that an excepted profit margin was met each time. Work closely with the main university budget department to ensure that targets are met and provide other ad hoc information as required. Oversee all purchase orders, ensuring that they have been provided for in the various budgets; Issue and authorise payment for contracts for course instructors, and keep all project managers updated on their individual budgets to ensure that targets were being met.

This was a contract to cover a maternity leave. The responsibilities included maintaining, monitoring, and reporting on the operational and research budgets throughout the fiscal year. Working closely with the Dean and Associate Dean to prepare the annual budget, including recommendations based on the current year’s performance, and adhering to adjustments required by the University.Oversee all office purchases, including the furnishing of a new wing and the renovation of several classrooms. Meet with suppliers to obtain the best quotes and managing delivery time around work completion and timetable constraints. Work with the Campus Operations department to ensure projects were completely smoothly. Assist with A&R and non-space funding requests.

Guinness Trust is a large housing association (supplier of social housing) with many subsidiaries. The first project with Guinness Trust was to help streamline the work required in producing the fiscal year end accounts. When this six-month project ended, I moved on to work for one of the new subsidiaries, Guinness Care and Support. This position had responsibility to set up new accounting procedures for this newly formed subsidiary to produce monthly management accounts and produce a multi million-pound budget for the following financial year. This subsidiary was extensively monitored by the UK government, and various statistics had to be provided at regular intervals.

NESA is an arts trust charity that was project based, and individually funded through Grants. The organizations that provided the grants required detailed performance reports and statistics. The position was also required to consolidate these projects into fiscal year end accounts which involved extensive accruals for the multi year projects. Payroll duties and cash flow management were critical components of the job.

The Watershed Trading Company had a café/bar and conference facilities. The Watershed Charity had a cinema offering foreign and ‘art house’ films, some of which were funded with grants. It also had a small art gallery and ran art courses for the public. The coordinator role involved the accounting functions of the two different companies. Various statistics were required to be produced for the UK Arts Council to maintain their charity status and determine their funding levels.Manage a small team which produced: the weekly payroll, monthly management accounts, budgets, and reports to grant funders. The role was required to produce fiscal year end accounts for external audit. The role also involved liaising with external funders, including private individuals and organizations such as the UK Arts Council, and presenting financial information at Board meetings.Risk management was a large part of this role, especially relating to insurance coverage for various art exhibitions we hosted.
