This role was a brief summer role before starting my internship at Oakworth Capital Bank. In this role, I planned out the curriculum for the Crimson Scholars program. This involved researching various methods on capturing student engagement and what first-year students need the most. I communicated with my program manager on a weekly basis to get prior approval of topics and formulating ways to satisy the goals and purpose of FYE: supporting the academic and social transition of first-year students to The University of Alabama.

The University of Alabama’s First Year Experience and Retention First Year Experience and Retention Initiatives (FYE) is an area of the Division of Student Life committed to supporting the academic and social transition of first-year students to The University of Alabama. FYE seeks to help students understand expectations associated with being a member of the Capstone and educate first-year students about various support services on campus. FYE provides support, resources, and programs for freshman and transfer students as they build the foundation of their Capstone experience.In this role, I host bi-weekly meetings with a group of students to provide insight and knowledge for life at The University of Alabama and also in the business college. Supporting FYE's purpose and goals involves meeting with students 1:1 to gauge their success and allow me to aid in their jouney through college by providing personalized resources and support based on their needs. To achieve our goals as a team, I have to collaborate with my amazing team of fellow mentors to improve the function and form of the program.To improve the quality of the program's academic program to support student, I lead a small committee concerning the education and resources that students receive via their bi-weekly meetings, which is described in more detail below in the 'Organizations' section of my LinkedIn profile. In order to assure that every mentor is also meeting FYE's purpose and goals, I train and develop the new mentors on the most effective ways to increase student involvement and academic success here at The University of Alabama. Finally, I act as a support system for the professional staff, new mentors, and returner mentors so that no box is left unchecked.
