The aim of this subject is to give participants both practical experience in, and theoretical insights into, elements of engineering innovation. This subject operates at the intersection of start-ups and corporate innovation, working with mentors on corporate-sponsored projects within an academically rigorous leadership and start-up framework. Solar Systems is a 100% owned subsidiary of Silex Systems Ltd, an ASX company. Administered $30M budget, managed P&L, and tracked cash flow. Set KPIs, steered business commercialisation and enhanced communication as well as program management. Controlled value chain operations, oversaw R&D activities, and coordinated project development efforts. Managed projects, performed quality control, and identified business development opportunities. At Silcar (now Ventia), administered $250M budget for seven sites nationally. Set KPIs, managed risks and enhanced cross-functional and internal and external communication. Managed projects, contracts, costs and identified business development opportunities. Carried out capability planning and secured strategic partnerships.- Won tender for over $100M for power stations in New Caledonia supplying a Nickel mine for Xstrata.- Financial lead for successful $50M tender for Telstra facilities management.- Renewed three major customer contracts (all > $10M p.a.).- Negotiated and managed contracts for multiple projects for Silcar Major Outages group.- Managed tender and contracts for sale of Silcar High Voltage Electrical Services business.- Implemented MS Dynamics ERP.

Established a successful electronic trade finance business that now settles over $30 bn p.a., building a team of 120 across New York and London, working initially for Citigroup, and from 2001 Orbian, a Citigroup subsidiary with SAP as a minority shareholder. Raised over USD90m in venture finance, successfully closing complex shareholder agreements. Orbian is now the world's leading supply chain finance company, with billions of dollars funded.
