CurrentJoy manufactures mine equipment. Engineering develops new product and supports OEM and rebuild.Entry Development (04/2010-)Team formed to support and design a larger 14ED machine. Developed a dust system and multiple platforms. Analyzed major pieces. Interact with many levels of personnel in/outside of the company/country.Product Development (11/1998-04/2010)Team creates significantly new product. Two miners/batch hauler were created. Hauler was battery powered eliminating cable handling / reducing mine logistic. 1st miner allowed simultaneous bolting/cutting. Developed work area and cutting linkage. Led personnel in testing machines loading ability. Shortfalls addressed in next miner. Laid out work area, dust, conveying, sumping systems, and approved canopy. Tracked budget, parts stock, and cost.Haulage (11/1997-11/1998)Team supports batch/continuous product. New chain haulage introduced. Did analysis on carrier/conveyor chassis. Visited mines to define expectations. System introduced in US/South Africa.Electrical (10/1996-11/1997)Team designs electrical systems - regulatory/customer specific. Power controls cut, tram, and load, and safety controls light, fault, and methane systems.Project ManagementI was assigned a team to create a high capacity hauler. Responsible for specifications, development, budget and cost, and team direction. Steering and power systems were evaluated.RegulatoryExpanded UL, CSA, IEC experience with NIOSH and MSHA. For MSHA developed a staged canopy and dual drill single vacuum dust system. For NIOSH I tested concepts to lower noise exposure. ManufacturingBuilt upon mass production experience with that of custom equipment. Where lines made thousands of units/ month, new miner could take a year from concept to shipment.Testing I directed large scale tests: mine face for loading/ventilation, friction tests for material selection, slide frames for cable wear, mine bottom for skid/clad steering, and MSHA and NIOSH tests above.
