I have been involved with the Boy Scouts of America since I was a scout myself. Then with my son, as an adult leader in Cub Scouts, Webelos and now Boy Scouting. I've served as Den Leader, Assistant Scoutmaster and Committee member. I've been very active in my son's troop, participating in high adventure outings including backpacking to the summit of Mt. Elbert in Colorado (the tallest mountain in the US Rockies at 14,433 ft.). My son is now an Eagle scout and I am currently serving as an Eagle Mentor to young men working with them to achieve their Eagle Rank.

Software Developer – 1999 to 2001• Refined and enhanced Impoze, a vendor’s software package that automated the magazine layout and pagination process.• Radically enhanced the export and merger of data from a MS Access database to a Sybase system. Devised and developed complex SQL queries that decreased the average execution time from two hours to two minutes.• Successfully completed and brought unfinished portions of the software into production by enabling a faster transfer of text to pre-print. Analyzed and matched data structures in Visual Basic 6.0 Enterprise and Access 2.0 and 97 to overcome the absence a relational database platform.Special Projects Leader – 1998 to 1999• Conceptualized and created an AB SLC 500 PLC-based controller for a liquid extruder machine. Leveraged skills in AB RSLogix and RSView to create a custom Human Machine Interface. Delivered a complete solution for a 66% savings over vendors quote.Software Engineer – 1994 to 1998• Developed applications in Visual Basic 5.0, 6.0 Enterprise, Access 2.0 and 97.• Maintained and enhanced a customer billing system by introducing upgrades in Active Reports and Microsoft ADO access tools.• Introduced upgrades in Active Reports and Microsoft ADO access tools.• Redesigned and debugged a scheduling program which was written by an outside consulting group.• Provided firsthand knowledge and perspective in supporting IS initiatives using embedded control technologies for linking production equipment to corporate systems. Software Engineer and Team Leader – 1984 to 1994Developed and enhanced printing and binding technologies to increase productivity, quality and profitability. Projects required advanced knowledge of Assembly language on Intel microprocessors and microcontrollers. • Held a leading role in the development of a “state of the art” color registration system.• Managed a Team of five Firmware Engineers. • Enabled new market penetration and with an innovative mapping technique that provided the flexibility to customize the product for different press configurations. • Conceived and implemented a control system for magazine production equipment. Solicited extensive operator and supervisor input to perfect the design. Saved time and money by reusing existing circuit boards for proof of concept testing. Conducted production testing, verification, validation and trained both Operators and Electricians. This new control system was instrumental in win landing lucrative new contracts.• Addressed a machine downtime issue by incorporating a series of sensors and reject gates to divert faulty product without machine stoppage.• Devised a barcode-based device that doubled the capacity of an existing magazine co-mailing machine. This enabled the commingling of 32 different magazine titles into a single money-saving bulk mailing. This industry leading advancement was instrumental in winning several major contracts.
