As part of the casual bank staff of Cabrini Health, I provide nursing care in the role of anaesthetic nurse and PACU nurse as required.The Cabrini Operating Suite houses ten operating theatres, including a hybrid theatre, and twenty PACU beds in a spacious, modern environment. Providing a full range of surgical specialties, with over 1000 operations each month, every theatre is equipped with state-of-the-art technology including heart-lung machines, anaesthesia workstations, intra-operative computer systems and the latest laparoscopic and endoscopic equipment. A Post-Anaesthetic Care Unit of 20 monitored bays caters for all specialist requirements.Surgical specialties include: General, urology, gynaecology, neurosurgical, ENT, orthopaedics, paediatrics, obstetrics, cardiovascular and plastic surgery.

My role was to actively assess and assist patients as they wake from anesthetic, providing care in airway, pain, and surgical site management. Utilizing teamwork across a multicultural environment; to create an optimal patient recovery atmosphere and best possible nursing care. Participate in the on-call system for out-of-hours emergency cases. Competent in BLS, ACLS and PALS emergency response systems.

My responsibilities in the Operating Room encompassed Charge Nurse duties for 2 weeks of every month. This role was responsible for the management of 9 Operating Rooms (OR), including an emergency, trauma, immediate cardiac and obstetrics ORs. This required efficient management of the pre-anesthesia rooms, ORs, and post-anesthesia care unit (PACU), as well as the prioritization and coordination of emergency lists in a highly demanding and busy hospital. The health care workers within my responsibility included nurses, operating room technicians, surgeons, anesthetists and students.As an OR nurse I also undertook the role of the anesthetic, scrub, scout and recovery nursing roles. Ability to conduct thorough assessments of pediatric, adult and geriatric patients throughout their peri-operative experience and respond appropriately to their physical and psychological needs. Competent in the various nursing roles, basic life support and emergency response protocols.
