About Holger Ott
Mission statementAchieving a sustainable energy future is a major present-day challenge. Current scientific and technological advances are shaping this transition, but require further development to align them towards such a shift. My mission is to develop clean energy technologies to improve the balance between energy production and environment through R&D deployment. Let’s do it!Research interestsMy primary professional and private research interests are the geological aspects of clean energy technology, now and in the future. Within that context, I am working on rock-fluid interactions – conducting mainly experimental research – for geological carbon sequestration (CCS), unconventional gas production, and subsurface gas storage.I currently focus on multiphase flow in porous rock. Of particular interest is the coupling of subsurface chemical reactions to the fluid flow field (reactive transport) and to mechanical properties of the formation rock (rock integrity). These couplings are not well understood, particularly in carbonates, and entail uncertainties for disposal and storage projects with respect to plume migration and formation integrity.
