About Holliday Horton

A future tech artist and educator with 40 years of experience in animation, immersive design, and video games. Passionate about creating original experiences with augmented reality while teaching 3D animation and video game design to inspire the next generation of creators.Exploring the intersection of technology and creativity, using cutting edge tools to craft immersive experiences that invite viewers to interact and see the world in new ways. My recent collection of AR kinetic sculptures delve into the beauty of math as art, celebrating the infinite nature of pi - reflecting and refracting in realtime over the real world. In 1986, I was among the first 3D animators to utilize Silicon Graphics workstations and Cray supercomputers at the San Diego Supercomputer Center at UCSD. As a self-trained 3D animator, I animated projects for NASA/JPL, General Atomics, the National Science Foundation, and the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center. Over the years, I mentored dozens of college interns from UCSD and SDSU which led to the first 3D animation course in !991 at UCSD Extension using Alias Power Animator on Silicon Graphics workstations at the San Diego Supercomputer Center. Many of my students went on to have successful careers in 3D animation and games.🎮 VIDEO GAME INDUSTRY IMPACTIn 1993, Sony built a game studio to make the first PlayStation games and I was brought on to hire/train 35 Artists and to develop tools and pipelines for the very first PlayStation video games. My first game as Lead Artist and 3D Animator was NFL Gameday which shipped 6 months early in time for the launch of the PlayStation in 1995. I went on to ship 10+ AAA PlayStation titles for Sony with the best teams an artist could hope for. In 1999 I became a Senior Shareholder and Art Director of the game startup RedZone, we made more AAA titles and were acquired by Sony Computer Entertainment America in 2001.🌐 Immersive TechnologiesAfter games I went into stereoscopic digital imaging (S3D) with the 3D Creative Team at Panasonic Hollywood. ⭐️ Past projects include the XR Creators Garden for ComicCon @Home in VR, Tripp VR, and a LACMA Monumental Perspectives + Snap AR experience in collaboration with Judy Baca.
