I managed all aspects of this storefront in the Pike Place Market for over a year. In addition to all the requirements of my previous job with Hot Flashes, I was responsible for hiring, training, ordering, and scheduling. I hold the all-time highest sales record and average for this business, which has been established in the Pike Place Market since 1983.

This seasonal job (I did not work from January through April), introduced me to my career working in the Pike Place Market. It demanded a great deal of salesmanship, ingenuity, and integrity to have notable success in my position. This job taught me how to provide outstanding customer service to thousands of diverse clientele, and to manage competing demands in the busiest tourist attraction in Washington State. This position required independent management of the daily registration, set up, operation, and packing of storefront, including the protection and storage of cash and inventory valued up to $10,000. I still hold the single highest sales record for this client, who established her business in the Pike Place Market in 2002.

Working for HFH through AmeriCorps was an amazing opportunity. My position required a high level of leadership and cooperation, and helped shaped my strong work ethic. Building at all stages was a major responsibility, but I also facilitated the safety and training of over 500 individual volunteers and homeowner partners in daily construction tasks, resulting the in the completion of 17 units of affordable housing. Our team got valuable non profit development experience by working intensively on HFH fundraising endeavors like the Annual Breakfast, which raises over $200,000 and involves hundreds of volunteer hours each year. We also engaged in a wide variety of leadership development training, including areas of cultural diversity, teaching and learning styles, OSHA, and disaster preparedness/response, and professional skill training. Some of my proudest moments in life occurred while working as an AmeriCorps volunteer.
