Volunteering with a small team of local residents, we worked to promote a more environmentally aware and sustainable borough. Primarily responsible for social media content creation, distribution and management, we organically grew our audience to over 1,000 people within six months, and engaged many more in healthy, lively discussions online. We have also worked closely with the council, helping to revise proposed policies that will affect the borough for the next decade. The outcome of this is very much dependent on the continued pressure of our 'Influencing councilors' sub-group, with whom I have worked but not continuously.Outreach via stalls at public events has also been an essential part of engaging local residents, as have the two CAL specific events that have been hosted over the last 18 months, each with the aim to recruit more active members. As a result of gaining more competent and reliable volunteers, we have been able to move away from the hierarchical structure that dominated our group since it's inception.
