Using my rare combination of skills on environmental and social impacts from the community level to the non-profit, inter-governmental and corporate sectors Most recently:- working to secure rights to land and natural resources for those indigenous peoples and local communities that actually "co-exist" with and conserve wildlife in Africa-helping to build and broadcast the voices of indigenous peoples and local communities around rights, equity and justice- developing innovative financing to support conservation and inclusive wealth for communities at “the point of impact”- applying technical experience to the needs of enterprises, large and small, to “make the business case” for sustainable practices- recognizing that Africa’s unique “value-add” lies in its natural assets and, therefore, helping to grow Africa’s wildlife economy bringing value at the most local level to sustain the resource base- developing new mechanisms to reward community stewardship of biodiversity- advising communities on the internal workings of carbon and biodiversity finance and how they can best secure the financial benefits at the most local level- responsible sourcing to ensure basic human rights and environmental sustainability in supply chainsOver 30 years:- building capacity in local communities to secure their landscapes, seascapes and natural resources and the livelihoods that depend on them - developing best practice on sustainable use of natural resources (e.g. ivory, rhino horn, skins, medicinals, textiles, NTFPs)- advising impact investors, governments, financial institutions and donors from local to global on new ways to ensure that resources get to “the point of impact” where the real decisions are made by people who live in close proximity and are permanently present- international policy forums - CBD, UNEA, CITES, CMS, UNFCCC- leading strategic planning, program implementation, monitoring & evaluation- chairing, facilitating, mediating controversial technical negotiationsA lifetime in Africa.
