Mental Health Speciality AreaProfessional Development ATI Coordinator (2018-2021)

At Research College of Nursing, I instruct approximately 320 adult students annually, teaching and lecturing mental health courses. I create lesson plans and coursework materials to align with curriculum guidelines, organize labs, and administer examinations. I also facilitate and schedule clinical rotations for all 320 students and coordinate faculty to supervise students during clinicals. In addition, I manage students working in the clinical field and forge strategic partnerships with mental health and psychiatric facilities within the community to provide additional resources and real-world experiences for nursing students. A few other highlights include: • Oversee 3 teaching facilities. Counsel students, maintain records, and administer student performance. • Pilot and launch a mental health experience program in November 2023, with an end goal of implementing a community-based mental health clinical rotation in January 2024. • Ensure program compliance with applicable regulations and standards governing healthcare. • As ATI Coordinator, advise faculty and current and prospective students. • As NCLEX Coach, prepare students for licensure, and support students in obtaining employment after graduation.

Nurse educator for the following courses: Fundamentals of Nursing, Medical Surgical Nursing, Communications, Pediatrics, Growth and Development, and Mental Health. Clinical instructor at three locations throught the year (long-term-care, pediatric clinic, and psychiatric hospital). Duties include development of lesson plans, couse content, assessments, skills lab, and clinical training. Involvement in facility PLC and PD programs, and also serving on the facilities PD committee.

As a perioperative nurse, I provided nursing care to pediatric patients prior to surgery, completed paperwork, and maintained up-to-date electronic medical records (EMR). I also addressed questions using therapeutic communication skills and calmed fears about surgery. Other responsibilities included:• Monitored patient conditions during and after surgery. • Managed overall nursing care in an operating room environment. • Educated patients and caregivers on recovery, pain management, and wound care. • Followed aseptic techniques to maintain a safe and sterile environment for patients.

At the Living Center (part of Fitzgibbon Hospital), I delivered nursing leadership in a 99-bed facility and oversaw the memory care unit, the skilled unit, and the long-term care/respite care unit. I directed all hospital and nursing home administration functions by providing insight into staffing and coordinating team members to meet the demand of the unit.Other highlights included: • Serve as charge nurse during the weekends, leading and supervising a team of nursing assistants and medical technicians. • Collaborated with administrators to ensure smooth flow of work and developed strategies to improve processes. • Built relationships with vendors to negotiate and procure cost-effective supplies. • Provided training and education to staff members on fall risks and wound care to improve quality of care.
