As a fundraising consultant with Good Works, I’ve collaborated with clients like WWF-Canada, SOS Children’s Villages Canada, The UN Refugee Agency Canada, The Kidney Foundation of Canada, Oxfam Canada, University of Saskatchewan, Royal Ottawa Foundation for Mental Health, St. Patrick's Home of Ottawa, Bruyere Continuing Care, Small Change Fund and more. My areas of specialization within individual giving include strategy and execution pertaining to legacy marketing, digital programs (predominately email and websites) and direct mail. I’ve also been tasked with building the digital side of our business, as well as given the opportunity to speak and coach my peers at fundraising conferences. I handle our agency’s marketing off the side of my desk and I’ve begun to dip my toes into business development.

In 2004, I co-founded the Ten Oaks Project. At the time, there was no programming or services in Ottawa for kids with LGBTQ parents. For 5 years, I grew and led this tiny (yet mighty) organization as the President of the Board that delivered Camp Ten Oaks and Rainbow Families. At the time, I tackled everything from fundraising and camp staff training to governance and policy writing. I retired from the Board in 2009, and remained involved as an advisor and parent, In 2013, I came back in a volunteer capacity to help re-build the individual giving program.

I was hired at ArtsSmarts to support the organization’s transition from being a project fully funded by The J.W. McConnell Family Foundation to an autonomous charitable organization in its own right. In my first year, I established a funds development program which secured $515,020 in new funds. Over the next year, I fundraised $1.79M with a focus on diversifying the funding base and increasing the number of supporters from 4 to more than 45.

As the head of marketing and communications, I managed one direct report and provided leadership to several cross-functional project-based teams of up to ten staff. My focus was to create, execute and evaluate communications strategies and marketing plans for our five strategic service units (fitness, camps, child care, employment and housing) and organization-wide with a minimal budget. I designed and managed a wide-variety of collateral from integrated advertising campaigns and biannual program guides to the annual report and donor newsletters. I was also responsible for building the Y's web presence, and relationships with Ottawa-based media for media relations and advertising purposes.

This position was created for me after I finished a contract organizing the 5th Canadian HIV/AIDS Skills Building Symposium. I was responsible for managing and directing a five person staff team to provide fundraising, communications and marketing, member relations, IT and events (Walk for Life, World AIDS Day, PLWHIV/AIDS Forum and Annual General Meeting). During my tenure, I led the organization though re-branding strategy, which includes a new graphic identity, organizational voice, brochure, newsletter, standards and website.

While in grad school, I started with POWERCamp focusing on communications during the transition from delivering one program to becoming a national organization. I was responsible for the design and implementation of communication mechanisms for both the organization and its network members, including database development and organizational literature. I also wrote promotional and research materials, both paper and web-based, membership and information packages, website and internal forms. As part of launch of this new national organization, I coordinated the international conference, Transforming Spaces: Girlhood, Agency and Power (overseeing volunteer management, subcommittee organization, logistics, promotion and programming).
