I'm managing two products related to people writing apps with web technologies. The first is WWAHost which is how we write Progressive Web Apps which are native apps written with web standards and technologies. The second is Webview which is how you incorporate web tech into a standard native app written in .NET, C++ and so on. I also work with JavaScript frameworks internal and external to Microsoft.

My job and my passion is to identify and work with the brightest and most passionate people in the software industry and help them be successful.In this job, I've actually done a number of different roles. The first role that I was originally hired for, I was the first breadth Architect Evangelist in the US and as such was tasked with how Microsoft reaches and evangelizes to architects at scale. This was a great departure to the one on one and enterprise focused architecture work that had been done in the past. The second role that I had was as a RIA (Rich Internet Application) evangelist where I was talking about the merits of RIAs and helping companies architect and build them with Silverlight. The third role that I tackled, partly in conjunction with the RIA evangelism role, was the startup guy for Central Region. As such, I helped launch the BizSpark program (Microsoft's startup offering) across the US and in Central Region in particular. The fourth role that I took on was as an open source liaison reaching out and engaging the Ruby, Python and PHP communities. As a result of this work, I ended up being invited to keynote a number of PHP and Ruby conferences around the world. Lastly, I was Next Web lead for the US for the last year in this job. As such, I was leading the strategy across the US for the Next Web pillar of work in the US subsidiary. This included coordinating our outreach and work with the .NET community as well as many OSS communities. Additionally it involved working with many of the product teams and helping them in their attempts to land their messages across their intended audiences.

Seattle Givecamp is about geeks giving back. We run an annual event where we recruit volunteers to help the nonprofits who have submitted requests for help on their technology side. Often it is as simple as helping them stand up a Wordpress powered website, other times it's as complicated as helping them build a custom CRM to help them with their specific needs.

QCash Financial is a CUSO (Credit Union Service Organization) helping Credit Unions offer small dollar loans based on their relationship with the member rather than the member's credit report. This is a critical function of the credit unions to serve their members and keep their members from having to go to predatory pay day loan services. As CTO, I'm ensured that technology is a partner to the business enabling new ventures rather than just being a cost center.During my time with QCash, we turned the company from losing $250k per quarter to profitable which resulted in a sale for $32m.

As a member of the board of the Irish Internet Association (IIA), I help form the direction of the association, set its charter, have a deciding vote in major expenditures such as throwing major conferences or doing roadshows to educate the SMEs around Ireland.

My passion is helping people succeed. In my role as a mentor at the NDRC Launchpad, I meet with all of the startups in each class that they bring through and we identify places where I might be able to help them. Sometimes that's through introductions to other startups, mentors, investors etc. Sometimes that's helping them identify additional sales channels. Sometimes that's looking through their architecture and helping them scale. In every case, it's looking at what is going to help make this startup successful.

As VP at SRT Solutions, I helped lead the consulting and sales to grow SRT from 3 people to 12 people over the course of 18 months.The consulting jobs that we landed ranged from small startups to Fortune 500 companies. My role in the jobs that I lead was to be the acting CTO or lead architect and to shape the strategy for the project and get the initial prototypes working. Then I would shift into a project management role through the completion of the job. The sectors that we worked were fascinating including:- Natural language processing- Wheelchair management inside airports- Store management for a large food franchise- Health care research - Simultaneously launched a HIPPA compliant research app in 12 countries and 18 language.and much more.

The SD Conf gave me my start as a speaker on the big stage. I spoke at this conference for 8 years sometimes speaking at both the West and East coast events. The topics that I spoke on ranged from my first talk which was a VB/COM based front end architecture that I had built based on the app that we had in production at Alltel to leveraging OSS technologies inside the Microsoft stack such as nHibernate, nUnit and more to architecture talks and the list of talks goes on.

As an instructor for the Richard Hale Shaw Group, I wrote course work and delivered courses in the information technology space. My first course was the XML Bootcamp. Following that was the VB.NET Bootcamps which was initially an adaptation of the C# Bootcamp but later I contributed and taught both bootcamps. Following that was the ASP.NET Bootcamp in both VB.NET and C# followed by the Web Services Bootcamp. I delivered public courses where we'd sell 10-40 tickets for the course as well as onsite classes. The customers included government customers, such as the IRS, Department of Transportation, Defense Department and more, Fortune 500 companies, such as AT&T, Dominoes Pizza, HP and more, all the way down to startups and the like.

In this role, I had the amazing opportunity to help pull together a class of main frame developers and train them to move over to the client server world including teaching them OO, relational databases, VB, C++, Windows, Unix and more. As part of this, we built a mini-version of what was in production so that the students were completely ready to dive into production code.

Us

This was my first job out of college. As such, I started at the bottom. The fun part is that I had just graduated with my degree in Drama, Radio and English Lit so I knew next to nothing about programming but they put me in a 3 month training program to learn COBOL. I figured out that I loved telling computers what to do but really needed to do something more exciting than the main frame side of the world. I found a way to transfer to the Client Server division through a great 6 month class that taught us OO, Relational Databases, C++, VB, Windows, Unix and much much more. After that, I spent 3 years working on that side of the business. I learned a ton and eventually went back to teach the same class that had taught me so much.
