    I was the coordinator for the Kauai Endangered Seabird Recovery Project. Program goals were research and conservation for the recovery of globally threatened and federally listed seabirds, including Newell’s Shearwater, Hawaiian petrels, and Band-rumped storm petrels.Over my five years, I grew my annual budget by 400%, with a peak seasonal staff management of 5-10 biologists. My team’s activities included: engagement with federal law enforcement for birds affected by light pollution, and roles in criminal and civil lawsuits to direct monies to on-the-ground conservation. Other key achievements included population modeling as a prioritization tool for recovery activities, facilitating the first predator mitigation efforts at key colony sites, initiating a marine program to study diet and at-sea distribution, expanding new technology and methods to identify and monitor these cryptic seabirds over time, and documenting breeding distribution on Kauai. I continue to work with these species and support this program in my free time.
