My name is Guilherme Costa and I received my Bachelor (UFRGS, 2001), Master (UFSC, 2003) and Doctor (UFSC, 2007) degrees in Electrical Engineering. UFRGS and UFSC are reputed as some of the most prestigious Brazilians universities. I also pursued an MBA in University Management (UCS, 2014). In 2000, I started developing machine vision solutions in a small company in the South of Brazil. At that time, the first machine vision applications were starting in the Brazilian industry. After one year, I decided to go deeper into this area and started my Master’s (which, in Brazil, usually takes 2 years) and, right after, my Doctorate, both in image and signal processing. After that, I focused for 12 years in academic activities (teaching, researching and administrative activities) at the University of Caxias do Sul, always focusing on the image processing area. In 2018 I started up a consulting company in the machine vision area, training people and developing solutions for other companies.The University of Caxias do Sul (UCS) is a recognized community university, located in a very industrialized and entrepreneurial region of Brazil. Caxias do Sul city has one registered company for each 5 inhabitants. At UCS, from 2016 to 2018, I was launched to the position of Assistant Vice-Chancellor for Research. For the last 12 years I have acted as associate professor of the Electrical Engineering undergraduate course. In 2019, Electrical Engineering at UCS was evaluated as the second-best Brazilian Electrical Engineering course by the Brazilian Ministry of Education. In 2011, I was one of the founders of the Mechanical Engineering Graduation Program, of which I am currently a board member, and in 2023 I was one of the founders of the Applied Computing Graduation Program, of which I currently serve as coordinator.From 2011 to 2014, from 2020 to 2023 and from 2024 to 2027, I was awarded a Technological Development Researcher scholarship (DT level 2), one of the most distinguished technological/innovation grants in Brazil. This is sponsored by the National Council of Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), an agency of the Brazilian Ministry of Science (MCTI). From 2015 to 2017, I was president of the South Brazil (South Region) IEEE Signal Processing Society Chapter. In 2020, I was elevated to Senior Member at IEEE.
