• Led the development of QDEF™ quantum dot technologies for LCD Displays, the inkjet printable and photo-patternable QDs for color conversion for OLED and microLED Display applications and the development of next-generation QD nanoLED Technology. • Spearheaded the commercialization of Nanosys/glo microLED display technology platform with focus on automotive augmented reality (AR) heads-up (HUD) full color display system. • The microLED technology is a vertically integrated process that begins with the growth of RGB LEDs by epitaxy. The RGB LED chips are then patterned and processed down to only a few microns. Mass Transfer is used to transfer the chips to a CMOS backplane, which enables excellent light-up defectively. Finally, the HUD system is integrated and operated to create an AR high brightness and high-resolution display.

The startup developed a new display materials technology that will improve the color gamut of the display while also reducing power consumption.

Recruited and mentored Silicon Valley-based entrepreneurs to bring disruptive consumer and display concept products to market by enabling access to working capital, investors and customers. Led strategic partnerships and advised on technology and business development, product design, fundraising and marketing.Successfully incubated startups in AR/VR holographic displays, haptics and spatial computing, photonic neuromorphic computing, as well as wearable and hearable devices. Focused activities and deliverables on first minimum viable product.

Guided process development technology for inkjet-printed Full Color OLED displays including thin film encapsulation (TFE), full-color printing and ink formulation and led the inkjet-printed QD-OLED display program. Oversaw lab efforts to make prototypical engineering samples in simulated manufacturing environment. Directed five departments and ~50 engineers and staff. Partnered with marketing, sales and customer teams during technology transfer to manufacturing; traveled to Korea and China to meet with display customers.

Led the DuPont consumer electronics Applications Center in Silicon Valley to support local consumer and automotive product customers. Guided product and application partnerships and strategies. Managed site and team of ~30 engineers and staff. Orchestrated vetting of potential investments in startup companies including business plan review, process analysis, and other due diligence.

Developed and introduced next generation PV metallization and packaging DuPont products to solar energy market. Propelled product portfolio based on overall market requirements and conditions. Spearheaded and guided future road-mapping for leading-edge products. Integrated PV Cell and Module fabrication facility, which was used to resolve holistic reliability issues.

Led with executive team the successful start to exit of solar startup company (acquired by DuPont). Recruited and managed world-class engineering team of ~50 and worked closely with CEO and board to secure funding. Collaborated on the filing of 60+ patents. Spearheaded launch of 10 MW solar cell fabrication pilot facility. • Utilize solar cell pilot facility to demonstrate large-scale manufacturability and quick-turn iteration-based prototyping of small solar cell builds to optimize fabrication processes and identify production limitations. • Led team to achieve unprecedented 5% boost in power conversion efficiency, gaining industry attention.• Transferred technology and signed contracts with world’s top solar cell manufacturers (in China).

Led product development and engineering of OLED display module products from concept to full qualification. Guided global team of engineers and technical product managers (in US, Germany and Malaysia) and partnered with marketing and sales on customer relations. Displays used in cell phones, automotive cluster panels, mp3 players and medical devices.•Managed phase gate approach and developed budget & resource planning for product development programs. •Led display module design, fabrication, characterization, qualification and validation processes. •Responsible for articulating complex technical tradeoffs to Sales, Marketing and Customer teams. •Secured funding and led U.S. Department of Energy Partnership ($9.3M) to develop efficient light sources.

Led OLED micro-display activity at HP Labs and created the world’s first polymer LED micro-display for VR applications. Invented and fabricated novel red emitting OLEDs.

Explored photoconductive and luminescent novel polymers. Geared research to large-area optoelectronic devices like solar cells, OLEDs and laser printers.
