I am an Agile transformational leader, data scientist, data architect, and data engineer. As a practitioner of systems science and systems engineering, I came to industry in the 1990s from a research group led by the late Professor Theodore Williams at Purdue University, where the group started looking for causes as to why so many big projects failed across industries. The result was the Purdue Enterprise Reference Architecture (PERA), which I helped to create. I've had the opportunity to document much of what I learned then and since on a variety of consulting engagements in the book I co-authored with Daryl Kulak, “The Journey to Enterprise Agility: Systems Thinking and Organizational Legacy” (Springer International, 2017). I believe our book represents the first effort to bridge the soft and hard sides of systems science.As a consultant, I have been fortunate to play all kinds of roles in IT projects over the years. Working with client executives, management, and development teams, I led client engagements in the areas of enterprise data analytics and software development, information systems planning, business planning and development, production planning, and scheduling, as well as project management, operations management, and quality control. My industry experience includes manufacturing, supply chain, CRM, energy/utilities, banking/financial, insurance, pharmaceutical, automotive, steel, refinery, e-commerce, e-learning, social networking, education, and software products. Particularly, starting from 2001, I led early Agile projects. Since 2006, I've done many data and analysis projects, including regular BI projects and Big Data projects. Since 2008, I have participated in more and more data science applications and projects. The principles and guidelines published in our recent book have helped me deliver projects successfully for my clients. These projects in return also helped me verify and validate my research. Whenever it is possible, I like to share with my clients and friends my experience and lessons learned through the years.
