Most industries would refer to this position as Project Manager. As the lead Technical Director for the only non-profit scene shop in the country I lead our clients from our first interaction with them through the completion of their project. Since Philadelphia Scenic Works is still a small company, I have a wide range of responsibilities that largely speak to my skill set. Following our initial interactions with our potential clients I develop quotes, and build plans and timelines based on designs either provided by the client, or that I've developed in house. I am often asked to work within a specific budget, and during this planning phase, I work with the client to suggest and implement edits to stay inside of that budget, while still supporting the client's vision for their project. Once a project is approved, I interpret design draftings into build draftings to hand off to our carpentry, welding, and paint teams. Based on the needs of each project, I determine our labor needs and bring in any additional carpenters, welders, painters, etc. as "overhire" for that project. When our overhire are on site, I oversee them as well as our in-house build team during build and install to ensure a quality product is delivered to our clients. As necessary, I also train our overhire and build team to work safely and efficiently, to meet all of our deadlines

I started at Flannel & Hammer as their first employee, while I was still in college. In my initial role, I primarily operated as a carpenter, rigger, and electrician for the build an install of any projects. Within by my second year there, I was also one of their primary welders, and taught other members of the team the basics of welding, so we could increase the amount of metal working projects we could take on. After I completing my degree, I transitioned into an assistant technical direction position, in this role I worked with the owner/Lead Technical Director to develop quotes, timelines, install plans, and determine labor needs based on designs provided by our clients. Once projects were approved I interpreted the design draftings into build draftings for our carpentry and welding teams. I also oversaw our build/install team to ensure a quality product was delivered to our clients.
