It's always been stories for me-- writing in particular. No matter what job I’m working, it has always tied back to the great, big, beautiful story. When I edit a book, I want it to be infused with creativity, while retaining complete readability. What is the point of reading if it’s incomprehensible? And I might be the one person on the planet who enjoys correcting punctuation. You can just call me a “comma hunter” if you want (because it’s kinda true). I love working with authors as we build something together. Perfecting someone else’s vision is a skill that I have honed over the last three years. It’s an honor to be trusted with a dream, and I believe every good book starts with one. But I’ve learned over the years that stories can be told in a plethora of ways. Though writing might always be my favorite (hey, we never forget our first love), the world is changing, and pictures really do paint a thousand words. Social media allows creators to tell their stories in a unique combination of ways. Assisting with content creation and managing a social media platform has shown me the importance that photos and videos play in telling stories. And building a community of followers allows them to tell us their own stories… which is pretty cool.Covid came crashing down right as I graduated. As with most 2020 graduates, I was left scrambling. I decided to do something a bit wild. I teamed up with a fellow writer and fellow editor to create and release a high school-level homeschool curriculum. This process was impactful and educational as we spent months creating something we truly believed in. It is a pleasure to see it flourish in the world.Around this same time, I became an English tutor. Introducing students to books and writing has been such a surprising and lovely addition to my life. I have built relationships with young children who are just beginning to discover how fun reading can be. I have helped older, international students become more comfortable in an unfamiliar world. Though I never expected to be a teacher in any sort of capacity, I treasure my time with my students.Aaaaand when I’m not working, I’m painting, working out, or trying to find the best film score of all time (spoiler: it’s “The Mission”).
