Internship Mentor

Portland, Oregon, United States

In this position, I created and managed an internship program for two high schoolers at the Reed Research Reactor. Before their ten-week internship, I prepared an accelerated training plan and syllabus. The students underwent three short weeks of training. During this time, I taught the students the basics of nuclear, health, and radiation physics; they were also trained on how to use various radiation detectors, analyze samples with a gamma spectrometer, and follow our workplace procedures. After training, the students were given the opportunity to complete an independent research project. I mentored them during this seven-week process, helping them find the correct resources and answering questions along the way.
