Learning And Development Specialist
Senior Reactor Operator
Training Supervisor
The training supervisor oversees about 40 students through two months of reactor-related lectures, labs, homework, and written or oral quizzes. After the first two months, 15 students continue the year-long training program. My responsibilities include: creating and/or updating all content the trainees get taught, managing their weekly lectures and labs, facilitating group projects and individual projects, coordinating the trainees' job certifications, and prepping the students for the NRC reactor operator licensing exam they will take at the end of the program.
Reactor Operator
Internship Mentor
In this position, I created and managed an internship program for two high schoolers at the Reed Research Reactor. Before their ten-week internship, I prepared an accelerated training plan and syllabus. The students underwent three short weeks of training. During this time, I taught the students the basics of nuclear, health, and radiation physics; they were also trained on how to use various radiation detectors, analyze samples with a gamma spectrometer, and follow our workplace procedures. After training, the students were given the opportunity to complete an independent research project. I mentored them during this seven-week process, helping them find the correct resources and answering questions along the way.
Reactor Trainee
Nuclear Licensing Intern
Assisting with licensing of the Terrapower Natrium Reactor and Integrated Energy Storage project.
Atomic Physics Fellowship
In this ten-week fellowship, I constructed a Rubidium Magneto-Optical Trap (Rb-MOT). This experience introduced me to atomic and optical physics and created an opportunity for further atomic research at Reed College. This fellowship was generously funded by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation.
Dock Manager
Summer Youth Intern
This internship had a few parts: working as a farmhand, serving the community, and participating in professional development.
