About Horacio Matarasso

Biologist specialized in ecology and birderWith over two decades of work in these areas, I have combined my two passions: environment and birding. My career has focused on conservation, consultancy, and applications to sustainable development, specialising in topics related to environmental studies, field surveys, and integrating the bird component into them. In recent years, I have also strengthened the connection between nature and communities, promoting sustainable developments such as tourism and environmental protection in various programmes, and working as a consultant for international NGOs. I have also created my own nature reserve in one of the most diverse places in South America: the Esteros del Iberá (northern Argentina)At the head of Buenos Días Birding, I have developed a birding business in southern South America, welcoming birders from 40 countries. My passion for birding and environmental education is reflected in my work, where networking between groups, countries, and continents is fundamental and has become my distinctive skill, enabling growth and strength in conservation. As President of the Organising Committee of the South American Bird Fair since 2008, I have led the continent’s most important birding event, promoting the exchange and growth of this activity.

The guesthouse receives visitors from all over the world.Bordering the Iberá Park and close to the most beautiful city of Iberá: Loreto, we work on reforestation of forests, recovery of native grasslands, and the modeling of a small lagoon. We have water troughs and feeders for frugivorous and seed-eaters, and for hummingbirds, and a pond with a Hide for photographers and birders. There are a large number of trails and roads through forests, grasslands, wetlands and farms around the reserve and of course an access to the Park. There we navigate the rivers of the wetland, by boats or kayaks. The small town of Loreto, founded in 1610, has a rich culture, gauchos, traditional foods and folk music, and all just an hour and a half from the international airport.www.iberabiding.com
