Deep Creek Lake State Park

Returned to Deep Creek Lake State Park as an intern with the Student Conservation Association as a Naturalist. I educated the public about the environment and the park services mission through programs offered at the Discovery Center at Deep Creek Lake State Park.My duties included public presentations, coordinating Junior Rangers program, lead nature hikes, took care of park animals by handling, cleaning, and feeding, coordinated volunteer groups, wrote press releases for events, edited event schedules, created park materials, lead canoe trips, assisted in park duties, stocked merchandise, handled cash, opened and closed park facilities. I continued support of the Facebook Fan Page for the Discovery Center on behalf of the Western Garret County State Park Volunteers, Inc. Current updates and site are maintained by the WGCSPV, Inc.

As a volunteer for the Rosamond Gifford Zoo and a student at SUNY-ESF, they approached a group of students and myself to complete the initial walk through to see if the zoo could become LEED certified.There were many challenges in finding all the required forms and information because zoos are constructed in nature to be very energy intensive. Also there was no zoo at the time that was found to be LEED certified in which to compare our study to. After reviewing the public use areas, the group then analyzed each set of habitats that were constructed for the animals and collected data by hand or from computers that monitored a controlled environment. When the forms were completed,submitted for review and a poster presentation was made with recommendations from our findings.

Researched alternatives that the Atlantic Research Legal Foundation could advocate and propose to the City of Syracuse instead of building another sewage treatment plant. The City of Syracuse has combined sewage overflows, which results in waste flowing directly into the local lakes and streams. Green infrastructure reduces the overall flow of storm water that needs to be treated. Developing green practices like this reduces costs to the city and tax payers. I developed a plan of possible solutions that the city could implement on upcoming construction projects and renovations after a review of several sites. Some solutions were rain gardens, using permeable pavement on sidewalks, reconstructing green space along sidewalks (green space has increasingly been paved over with asphalt in the city), bio-retention basins, and the use of native plants.

As desk assistant at SUNY Upstate Medical University, I was responsible for covering all the maintenance and functions of the gym and posting advertisements for student activities. My duties included:-posting fliers all over campus-opened the gym and activities office at 6:00 a.m.-maintained gym membership files-operations of the facilities-responsible for creating a database in excel of past events to reduce file space -responsible for answering the phone-responsible for selling tickets-responsible for cleaning gym equipment

As cashier, I worked hard to learn all duties of the business and was able to run the business when the owner was out of the country for long periods of time.
