KMKNO or the Mi'kmaq Rights Initiative is the secretariat to the Assembly of Nova Scotia Mi'kmaq Chiefs. I spent three years working for the Chiefs in the Governance department doing legal research and helping refine the governance structures. I was also lead counsel in the Benefits department. In this role, I negotiated and drafted various impact benefit agreements with proponents to limit impacts on our Mi'kmaq rights and title, while ensure any development on our lands had meaningful Mi'kmaw participation.
