"So what do you really do," someone once asked me. My answer: I'm an interpreter. I can take the business's requirements and translate them into software solution designs and specifications that programmers can act upon. I prefer to describe my work like this rather than say I'm a software consultant; it's more specific. I've been doing this since 1998, in the contexts of learning and assessment. Along the way, I've earned my "chops" in the field of e-assessment/certification/psychometrics (while suffering a few bruises too), so that now I have the confidence to say "yes" to almost any project that comes my way, but the wisdom to say "no" or to ask for help when the requirements are beyond my expertise. I am brutally honest with my customers. My passion is to make sure our software works for them. I will tell them how our software may fall short of their needs. I will tell them if they need to re-think their business process or technical requirements. I will tell them if their designs don't follow best practices. In most cases, this candor has served me and the organization I've work for since 2004 - Questionmark and now Learnosity - rather well.
