Devil’s-in-the-details designer, insatiable inventor, and unapologetic iconoclast with a history of upsetting the status quo and convincing others to create the unexpected. I have been making things my whole life. I built my first electrical light when I was 5… I built a stair-making machine for my father… I built my house 30 years ago… My attic hatch door opens with a hacked garage door opener. I was born to make things, but that’s not the whole story. Those who know me will say I am passionate idea generator mixed with a healthy dose of OCD. I find this combination the reason why I’ve been able to create design breakthroughs and receive 18 patents, as well as give Robern, the luxury of first mover advantage. I love the unexpected, but only when it has a useful purpose. For example, when I was in college, I built a local homeless man and newspaper vendor an enclosed shelter/newsstand because he kept getting robbed on the street. Instead of doing a more traditional architecture project for my class, I chose to build him a home with his name on it with a welded money box. The city officials went ballistic but in the end let it stay.I’ve carried this same level of ingenuity and purpose into the designs I have created with my team at Robern, a Kohler Company. Because of our work, we have created bathroom cabinets, vanities and styling space solutions that are not only stunning, high-quality and impeccably crafted, but also thoughtful and ergonomic. We make people’s lives easier by giving them the ability to customize their bathroom and dressing area to create the best possible experience. I call it elevating daily rituals.Although I am semi-retired now, I continue to consult with Robern along with volunteering at enriching organizations like SCORE and the James A. Michener Art Museum, going to the Y, learning to play the ukulele, cooking, traveling, riding my bike, and visiting my three amazing daughters.
