WHAT: My pre-retirement planning workshop provides counsel that helps physicians and surgeons consider how they should prepare for a future after medicine. As a physician aware of the unique issues doctors will face, my presentation helps position us for a fulfilling future.WHY: Physicians are immersed in the profession of medicine from an early age, defining our identity. We have special needs in retirement planning. Money is clearly important, but it is more important to develop a fulfilling lifestyle. I spent many years as an accomplished doctor, navigated my own retirement from the profession & know doctors must prepare differently to be fulfilled.MY BACKGROUND: I was chief of Pediatric Pulmonology & Critical Care at Riley Children’s Hospital during the time it evolved into one of the largest and busiest in the country. I am a founder of the specialties of pediatric pulmonology & critical care and served as Pediatric Assembly Chair for the American Thoracic Society. I have lectured extensively in China & South America as well as US and published 100 peer-reviewed articles. I learned the hard way to navigate into a future beyond my medical career, and converted my passion & skill of teaching into a program for helping others.TESTIMONIAL: “I have known and worked with Dr. Eigen for years & have personally observed him at local and national medical presentations. He has also lectured internationally many times. He was one of a handful of Pulmonologists most sought after to give national talks. I can say with 100% confidence that Dr. Eigen is one of the best presenters I have observed.” Richard L. Schreiner, Chairman Emeritus of the Department of Pediatrics, I.U. School of Medicine.HOW: My workshops & other resources prepare doctors to look at retirement planning differently, to look forward to, and be ready to confidently step into the next stage of life when the time comes.CONNECT with me here on LinkedIn, at eigen.h@gmail.com, ☏ 317 520-4411.

This allowed me to develop the Cystic Fibrosis Center of which I was director, a large pulmonary function laboratory for both clinical testing and research. It became one of the largest in the country. As medical director of the PICU I managed a large team of 200+ physicians and surgeons and nurses in a coordinated care program for critically ill children. Over the years at Riley I took over more and more administrative responsibility and served for 15 years a vice chairman of the Department. I organized and had a major hand in designing many construction projects, including the lead on a $400M Riley Outpatient Center completed in 2001. I have spoken all over the world on medical topics and have been visiting professor at many medical schools and hospitals.Over my career, I had many opportunities and experiences in organizing large projects and groups of people. Myself and a colleague were instrumental in starting the sub-specialty of Pediatric Pulmonology. I was on the founding board of the specialty of Pediatric critical care medicine. I was very active in the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the American Thoracic Society, and over the years served on many important committees for both national associations. These experiences provided tremendous opportunities to work with and manage many individuals of diverse backgrounds and points of view and provided insights that inform my teaching today. Show less
