I am responsible for a research group of nine engineering and scientist professionals specializing in gas processing technologies. The group performs applied research in the laboratory, bench, pilot, and field level in all aspects of gas treating. I am currently working on the development of a novel multi-contaminant removal process for natural gas and coal-derived synthesis gas. Based on the University of California, Sulfur Recovery Process, I amleading a team to develop the process for sulfur removal and recovery, as well as ammonia, chlorides, and heavy metals, such as mercury and selenium. Under US DOE funding, the technology is being readied for bench-scale testing in the lab and at a pilot-plant gasifier. Under another DOE project, I am working on an improved natural gas liquids recovery process that utilizes advanced heat exchange equipment to provide economical operations as market prices change for the products. My work on membranes for gas separations have included field tests on landfill gas in New York, digester gas in Florida, and natural gas in Texas, Colorado, Mississippi, and Illinois. I have completed a project for API on obtaining high accuracy physical properties data. While focusing on natural and synthesis gas production, I have been involved with gas quality issues within gathering, transmission, storage, distribution and end-use applications. Prior to starting the gas processing research area, I was responsible for upgrading coal-derived synthesis gas to substitute natural gas, including acid gas removal, shift, and methanation processes as required to produce an interchangeable pipeline product and for gas to liquids research programs.

Managed a group of six engineers, chemists, and technicians at the Chemical Processing Plant at the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory, Idaho. Responsible for pilot-plant process development for reprocessing spent, highly enriched nuclear fuels including fluidized bed combustion, pneumatic transportation and solids handling, semi-volatile component removal, dissolution, process design, evaluation of dry, nuclear fuel storage and reprocessing facilities, and calcinations.

Responsibilities included research on specialty paints and coatings, and introduction of water-based dispersions to market line.
