Having been involved in every aspect of the formation, evolution, commercial development and management of MindLink, it was agreed we should take the opportunity to bring in a new CEO to take MindLink to the next growth level. This provided us with the opportunity to realign the management team and for me to concentrate on leading new strategy initiatives, opening up new industry sectors and supporting the sales team with key prospects, customers and partners. In April I stepped down from the Executive team, but remain as a Non Executive Director.

We started MindLink to allow us to better focus on building a software company. MindLink is a highly secure chat-enabled collaboration (CEC) platform for enterprises. Our messaging & collaboration app encourages employees to stay actively engaged, reduce Email usage and build a more agile business. MindLink offers all modern collaboration features - instant messaging, presence and group chat, combined with mobility, security, compliance and advanced integration applications to provide relevant content to users whilst connecting to UC platforms such as Microsoft Lync & Skype for Business. (Think Secure 'WhatsApp' for Business)

I joined this small consultancy specializing in financial trading systems integration. As head of Business Development responsible for Sales and Marketing, my brief was to grow the existing consulting services business around Murex and Summit and look to build a software business around derivative trading systems. The CEO also gave me the backing to start a messaging consultancy and software practice to support MindAlign; now acquired by Microsoft and incorporated into Office Communicator/Lync. Over the next 5 years we successfully grew the company four fold (4x) added a new Calypso consulting practice, many major new clients like LCH, UBS, Barcap, RBS and a developed a successful UC Migration Consultancy developing bespoke and production software.

Us

Reporting directly to the VP of Sales, I was responsible for new business sales of MindAlign into the Global Investment Banks. MindAlign a persistent group messaging, IM and presence management solutions was a spin out from the Swiss Bank UBS. Our first client was ABN Amro swiftly followed by Deutsche Bank, RBS, Barcap, Citi, Dresdner, Investec, SCB etc. By the time that Microsoft announced their intent to acquire Parlano, we had over 65 global accounts and were responsible for the majority of them in EMEA. Microsoft finally acquired Parlano in October 2007 and the technology is known as persistent chat and is now part of Lync/Skype for business platform.

The KMS solution comprised an advanced neural network search, expert profiling, Collaboration and other knowledge management tools. The solution was called Deskartes & Universal Knowledge for which I was responsible for selling into the blue chip businesses in the Banking, Finance & Insurance sectors in London. It was while working on a project with Deloitte that I saw the opportunity to bring together KM & Instant Messaging. That is where everything started!
