Pike taught undergraduate and graduate courses in city and regional planning and real estate development. In addition, he coached students involved in real estate and urban design competitions and directed the undergraduate program in urban and regional studies.

Pike led the land planning and development efforts of several affiliated land investment and development companies operating under the trade name of W HOLDINGS.

HomeFed Corporation is a developer of residentially driven master planned communities, including the 2,000-acre San Elijo Hills community 35 miles north of downtown San Diego. Pike served as a member of the senior management team with responsibility for land acquisition.

Pike and two partners founded The Presidio Group in 1994 to acquire land and process residential development entitlements throughout California. He also provided advisory services to domestic and international clients through an affiliation with INTERRA Strategies.

Pike directed project teams and secured land use entitlements for residential communities located in environmentally sensitive coastal and hillside settings of California.

After leading a project team through the final approval of a specific plan and development agreement for a 3,800 acre master-planned community east of Sacramento, Pike helped the owners dispose of the property. He also evaluated development opportunities and entitlement strategies for an additional 3,200 acres.

Pike led development planning for the Banning-Lewis Ranch, a land holding of approximately 24,000 acres on the eastern edge of the City of Colorado Springs.

After joining The Irvine Company as Public Policy Advisor, Pike held progressively responsible positions and eventually became Senior Director of Business Planning. He also served as liaison to the University of California at Irvine, industry associations, regional planning agencies and environmental organizations.

Pike began his state service at the Department of Finance as a Program Review Analyst. Two years later he transferred to the Governor’s Office of Planning and Research (OPR) as a Policy Analyst. While at OPR, Pike was a principal contributor to an urban policy and action program entitled An Urban Strategy for California.

Pike worked with apartment building owners to prepare housing rehabilitation loan packages financed by the sale of tax-exempt municipal bonds.

In this first professional position, Pike worked on a countywide land use inventory for a land use and transportation study.
