Once an entrepreneur and business angel, I now channel my passion and skills into promoting electric vehicles, engaging in diplomatic studies, and pursuing the art of sailing.I have a non-traditional background. I didn’t go to university but, after my training as an electrical engineer in Zagreb, I was conscripted into the state army at the outbreak of war in Yugoslavia, where I was born and grew up.After there was peace, I wanted to make money and build my own tech retail company. I started in the garage of my apartment block by selling my own computers using generic parts. This became a busy and growing business and so I opened my own store, HGspot (similar to PC World in the UK) in Zagreb, Croatia. The business blossomed with me as the CEO until we had 50+ stores throughout the region, a workforce of 350, and an annual turnover of USD 120m. At this point I exited the business via IPO and cashed out. Although at the request of the banks I returned as a consultant to the business three years later when it experienced difficulties under its new owners. Trillenium, my project in augmented reality e-commerce, expanded from Zagreb to London with backing from ASOS plc, a leading online fashion retailer. Yet, it faced challenges in attracting more investment, resulting in its shutdown. This journey, though tough, emphasized the unpredictability of startups and the vital importance of resilience.I was one of those who recognised BTC in its early phase and invested a certain amount of money while they were worth only $300. I'm still keeping them.As President of the Croatian National eMobility Association, Electric Circuit, I'm deeply involved in advocating for electric vehicles and cleaner air. I've also returned to school, studying international relations and diplomacy at Libertas, showing my commitment to global issues and making a real impact.Sailing has become a crucial part of who I am, guiding me toward a career as a professional skipper. Every year, I dedicate weeks to enjoying the beautiful Adriatic and sometimes even competing in regattas.Despite stepping back from active investment, my influence persists in the tech world, with ongoing stakes in several IT companies across Croatia, London, and Estonia, bridging my past entrepreneurial successes with current pursuits in diplomacy, environmental advocacy, and the open seas.
