About Mohan Hr

Mr. H.R. Mohan graduated from IIT Madras in 1976. The installation of IBM 370 at IIT Madras during mid-1973 interested him to consider computing as a career. Started a Computer Club in IITM to benefit the students. In his first employment at Seshasayee Paper Boards, Erode, during 1976-1982, established the in-house computer, first in the country in a paper mill and optimized many areas. From 1983, for over 31 years, employed at The Hindu. Apart from automating various functional areas of the newspaper, was instrumental for the Internet Publishing of The Hindu – the 1st newspaper from India to go online way back in 1995 & it's group publications. Other initiatives include: Library Automation, Indexing, Digitization of the Archives, Content Syndication, Monetization and Compilation and Publishing of special themed publications under the series “The Hindu Speaks on” and “From the Pages of The Hindu”. Now an ICT Consultant.Associated with Computer Society of India from 1975 (joined as a student member) and became its President in 2014. Became the youngest Fellow of CSI in 2000.A senior member of both IEEE CS and ACM. Having associated with CSI, IEEE CS & ACM and other professional societies such as IEEE COMSOC, IEEE PCS, IEEE TEMS, IAS, CIS, ITS, RAS, OES, EdS, SMCS, EMBS, MALA, RCIS, SIS, LIBSYS, MMA, HCC, ORSI, had organized over 1300 technical cum professional events during the last 45 years. Has also delivered over 300 technical talks and tutorials in the state of art technologies in the area of ICT; edited a number. of publications & newsletters; served in several committees; represented India in international forums such as ICANN, SEARCC, IFIP, Internet Society etc.Served as Vice Chair of IEEE Madras Section & Student Activities Chair. Editor of IEEE CS R10 Newsletter, Editor of IEEE India Council Newsletter, Chief Editor IEEE Madras Newsletter LINK, Editor of CSI Infoline & CSI Digest Chair of IEEE Prof. Comm. Society, Tech and Engg Mgmt Society, Interface to Tech Societies at ACM India Chennai. EC member of IITMAA Madras Chapter. EC Member of ORSI Chennai, IEEE OES, IEEE IAS, Chair IT & Telecom Expert Committee of HCC, Ex Vice Chair of IEEE Communication Society, Member of IEEE CS R10 GAC & Chair of ACM Chennai.Recipient of both Meritorious & Distinguished Service Award from IEEE Computer Society & Inducted as a Golden Core Member. Awarded IEEE MGA Leadership Award & CSI Life Time Achievement Award.
