As an educator I have a passion for not only social studies but also ensuring every student has the skill and strategies they need to reach their full potential and achieve their goals in life. In order to ensure the students receive the best I stay abreast of current education research and methods.While in my first teaching position I developed the entire social studies curriculum for both the junior high and high school courses required by the district. This curriculum allowed the students to be fully prepared for their end of course evaluations, passing the state required U.S. and Missouri Constitution test, completing the state required personal finance course and preparing a number of juniors and seniors to go on to higher education. In 2012 I was invited to help launch one of the first exclusively virtual schools in the state of Missouri. In this role I learned how to develop effect virtual instruction as well as prepare students not on a high school track o successfully complete the G.E.D.. Within our school’s learning system we’d developed a prescriptive method of assigning lesson modules to students to fill in skills they were missing. As a teacher it has been my privilege to work and learn from a wide and diverse range of students from rural to urban core, two parent to non-traditional families, white dominate to minority dominate. Even after stepping back from teaching in a formal setting to provide foster care to children in need, I continued to keep my skills sharp by subbing for local school districts and later leading the children’s ministry program at my church.
