I am a Senior Data Scientist and Tech Lead supporting two other DS, leading the Messenger Presence and Graph team. In total, we are driving analytics for three engineering teams totaling 26 people, on products reaching 1.6B people.

I was a Data Scientist on the Messenger team, supporting the Groups product, the Messaging Ecosystems team, and the Ranking team over my tenure. Across these roles, I've produced numerous business insights, performed opportunity sizing for new and ambiguous product spaces and risk assessment in the wake of exogenous/competitor events, built dashboards to give key stakeholders visibility on product health, provided thought leadership to transform the way the entire Messenger organization thinks about messaging, and had my first people manager experience.On the Groups team, I was responsible for product analytics for a wide variety of features. They included delight features like Polls and Overreact (custom message reaction); integrity features like Group Admin Model for membership moderation; utility features like Jump to Last Unread, Jump to Present, and add member flows; and new experimental features like Chats for Groups, the Messenger integration product for Facebook Groups.The Messaging Ecosystems team was a horizontal team responsible for high leverage projects that affected all Messenger product teams. On the Ecosystems team, I designed an empirically-backed user behavioral clustering framework, improved reporting and conducted metric investigation for Messenger leadership, and upgraded org-wide experimental tools to reduce measurement error in experiments and expedite feature launch cycles.Lastly, I was on the Messenger Ranking team. I owned the Close Connections workstream where I helped launch an ML model dedicated to improving ranking quality that is now used not only in Messenger but across the company. I performed deep analysis and unified user research to design a framework for thinking about messaging primacy. I also managed two interns, who completed a successful analysis on ranking volatility with my support.

I am teaching HUMBIO 86Q, a course called Love as a Force for Social Justice, with Nobel Peace Prize nominee Anne Firth Murray. I am also designing a curriculum around the topic so that it can taught around the world through a MOOC to enrich the lives of students and adults alike.The course explores different kinds of love; whether or not we should we define love; non-violent communication; love and the biology of the brain; love as a basic concept of religious and ethical beliefs; and artistic and poetic expressions of love as a social force.

RAs are tasked with building community within their respective dorms, handling crisis situations among the residents, and conducting logistical and administrative business with regards to dorm programming. We are trained on emotional intelligence, QPR suicide response, and emergency protocols. We also work as a team with other specialty staff in the dorm and community that have more specialized training in technical-, academics-, or health-related issues. In dorms with freshmen, like mine is, RAs play a pivotal role in helping freshmen ease the transition from high school to college life.

I leveraged techniques used in computer science and social science research to surface insights for strategic decisions.My primary project involved designing the data infrastructure to support social network analysis (Python, SQL, Apache Spark) at the company, supporting graph analysis in the order of 10Ms nodes and 100Ms edges. I wrote an algorithm to identify social influencers in the player ecosystem using the player social network. My research findings were used to make game design decisions to drive player engagement and revenue generation.I also conducted a needs analysis on the company's diversity and inclusion (D&I) practices (R, Qualtrics). I built a D&I maturity model specific to the gaming industry to serve as a roadmap both for product strategy and internally for talent management.

I worked on discovering the recipe for collaboration, employee empowerment, and inclusion through a multi-pronged approach using data analysis (logic modeling and path analysis), natural language processing (against responses to open-ended questions on engagement survey), existing academic and industry research (psychology, OB, etc.), and emic and etic anthropology (interviews and observation of positive deviants). I'm making recommendations for refining the existing engagement survey and developing a toolkit for conducting similar research in the future.

I developed internal tools for use within HR department. My primary project involved cleaning and aggregating employee data to predict performance, engagement, and attrition trends and make hiring, promotion, and policy recommendations to HR leaders. I designed the user interface for self-service dashboards for Talent Data and Insights team. I spearheaded the initiative to increase frequency of employee engagement data collection. I made survey design recommendations using background in psychology research.My formal projects aside, I also delivered a talk on the role of human sentimentality in developing workplace culture to the entire company, streamed globally. After a conversation over dinner with Jackie Reses, the CDO, I started a project to revamp college recruiting pipeline in the Talent Acquisition department with my familiarity with the technical interview process. While at Yahoo!, I won the Best Intern Hack award with my team and our project, City of Heroes, at the company's quarterly Hackday.

I conducted research at the Organization Behavior Lab surrounding the manipulation of environmental cues and mental priming effects to affect business negotiation performance in a business school negotiations class. I used Javascript and HTML to design and deploy online experiments and interface with Amazon Mechanical Turk in order to scale up classic economic experiments such as the ultimatum game.The research in Dweck-Walton Lab involved creating computer “games” to play with children at Bing Nursery School to examine culture acquisition and transmission among infants. We were trained as teaching staff and built rapport with the children until they were willing to participate in the experiment.

Event planning and coordination; public speaking for potential corporate sponsors, school districts, and with government officials advocating for differentiated STEM education. Undertaking planning of state-wide data mining project to examine correlation between extracurricular STEM programs and academic performance using metrics of graduation rates, standardized test scores, and CTE class enrollment.
