I’m fortunate to have done some cool things – real estate, radio broadcasting, engineering, aviation, college instruction, start-ups, small companies, big companies. It’s been an interesting and varied journey. One that I’m still on, with still a lot more to do.Right now, I’m co-leading a new company, Tavura, to give retailers strong representation in their search for properties in great locations with consumers that match their desired profile. To do that, my partner and I developed proprietary AI/ML-driven GIS analysis tools to identify market segments in a retail property’s local service area. We only represent retail chains. No dual agency. No questioned loyalties. Excellent representation.I’m also a community college instructor, helping students from 16 to 80 pursue their dreams in aviation. Many of my past students are now flight instructors, charter pilots and airline pilots.Pursuing dreams is important, which I came to learn first-hand. I’m supportive of those in the pursuit. It makes for a more interesting, fulfilling, multi-skilled life and career.I started out in radio – on-air, engineering and management – working at top radio stations. I went on to become a corporate research engineer at videogame pioneer Atari, where my main project led to my co-founding a Silicon Valley venture capital backed startup, a joint venture of Atari and Activision, to do wireless distribution of video games to the home...all the way back in 1983.Earning two degrees in business, the path led to a string of start-ups, turnarounds and advisory work in a range of industries and for a while with Latino family businesses. One client was named SBA Small Business of the Year for the State of California.In the 2000’s and 2010’s, the focus shifted to working in a Fortune 1000 company, leading the $4 billion annual budgeting/forecasting process for what was then the largest wholesale food cooperative in the Western U.S.The career path hasn’t been traditional, and I’m proud of that. Sometimes forks in the road lead to unexpected opportunities. Plus, innovation and opportunity come from diversity in points of view from intersections of disciplines and non-traditional approaches. They certainly lead down paths that are much more interesting.Life is a journey. Enjoy it. Learn from it. Make it interesting.
