Human Rights Watch Student Task Force (STF), launched in 1999, is a youth leadership-training program that brings together high school students and educators and empowers them to advocate for human rights issues, especially the rights of children.Past campaigns include: • Build Human Rights Mobile Library in Darfuri refugee camps in Chad• Children’s Rights Camp traveling exhibitions• National Campaign for U.S. Ratification of the Convention on the Rights of the Child• Child Labor and the Rights of Child Farm Workers• Fair Sentencing for Youth• International Campaign to Ban the Use Child Soldiers• Human Rights and the Climate Crisis• Right to Education and Ending Military Use in Schools• Protecting the Human Rights of DACA RecipientsMost recently, STF chapters came together ahead of the Fall 2022 midterm elections to register and preregister hundreds of California voters. As 2023 came around, STFers advocated for the rights of asylum-seekers along the US-Mexico Border. Students organize and host advocacy events such as film screenings and interactive tent exhibits to bring educators, students and human rights activists together.

  Work with teachers and students in Los Angeles area high schools on an annual campaign to promote human rights and human rights education.Contribute to campaigns to end human rights abuses of children locally and globally.Develop leadership skills by training over 200 student leaders and teachers in human rights activism in partnership with 15 public and private high schools.Outreach to more than 20,000 people annually through schools, local communities and with local, state and federal policy makers.Coordinate chapter meetings and events throughout the year to support advocacy campaigns in collaboration with the Children’s Rights Division of Human Rights Watch. Provide student and teacher-specific workshops, integrated online communications, toolkits, classroom materials, weekly staff support, and mentoring for each school.
