• Headed up Nautilus’ engineering effort in the development of a commercially-viable proteomics platform.• Managed a team of 12 individuals encompassing the major engineering disciplines for an instrument of this complexity.• Led the instrument product design/ development team from early stage POC to alpha/Beta.• Implemented industrial design aligned with executive leadership• Coordinated a constellation of vendors, consultants, and contract engineering projects.

• Headed up Omniome’s engineering effort in the product design/ development of a commercially-viable NGS platform.• Managed a team of 44 individuals (from 11 at hire) encompassing the major engineering disciplines for an instrument of this complexity.• Led the instrument development team from early stage POC to Beta.• Demonstration of Beta instrument sequencing capability was a key element in company valuation for the Pacific Biosciences acquisition.• Coordinated a constellation of vendors, consultants, and contract engineering projects.

Product development support engineering for a Class III medical therapeutic delivery device. Duties included: progressive elaboration of engineering requirements and vendor management.

Employed broad technical expertise to support medical device product design & development. Supported late-stage work on a veterinary in vitro diagnostic device. Also engaged in early-stage product design work on a tissue processing system. Duties included: Elaboration of requirements, experimental design, process development, POC testing, DOE, engineering support.

• Worked on seven unique consumer products, provided rapid and responsive solutions to all customer inquiries and requests. Provided resolution for technical challenges arising during all phases of product design & development cycle.• Injection molding- Design for manufacturability (DFM) during close collaboration with domestic and offshore manufacturers for high-volume plastic parts.• Standards- e.g. navigated UL/ETL/IEC standards for product compliance and enacted design or material changes as required.• Process development/ optimization/ Problem solving- e.g. Optimized in-house casting technique for the fabrication of elastomeric keypads. Employed root cause analyses to improve fit of housings with internal features.

Engineering focused role in the platform systems group. Primarily managing the bioreactor program (R&D/ design engineering), but also focused on individual contributions to engineering projects serving platform system's mission to provide excellent company-wide engineering support. Experience in managing all stages of complex BOM's including Solidworks modifications to designs, vendor relations, and assembly. Demonstrated proficiency in bringing innovative solutions to working prototype phase in support of internal/external customer needs for next generation platform technologies.

Along with the previous role, developed a therapeutics program focused on complex cell-based class III regenerative medicine medical devices (vascular & pulmonary grafts). Provided biomaterials expertise to all projects. Hired, developed, and retained an R&D team and brought candidate therapeutics to preclinical pilot studies. Managed phase-gated high-profile projects with outside partners that developed therapeutic applications based on Organovo's bioprinting technology.

Reported to the President. Generated a technical report on a biomaterial forming technique and presented it to executive staff on-site.

Reported to the Scientific Director. Mechanical Engineering Consultant. - Co-designed a functional prototype mass spectrometer add-on for precision control of capillary spacing.- Generated all Solidworks mechanical drawings, and engineering specifications.

Directed development of a biomaterials function within the company to support largely class III medical device design consisting of combination products. Concurrently led several product development projects including a FP7 collaboration. conducted ongoing assessments of outside technologies and participated in patent development and review.

Along with the previous role, led a major project in the development of a vascular graft (type III medical device.) Developed an innovative scaffold formation technique. Co-designed a vascular bioreactor support system. Notably delivered on an aggressive time line. Contributed on other projects including IND submission on neo-urinary conduit. Co-developed in-house machine shop capabilities.

Mentor: Dr. Robert Levy, William J. Rashkind Endowed Chair in Pediatric CardiologyNIH postdoctoral fellow in cardiovascular research. Specifically, worked with novel chemical stabilization strategies for bioprosthetic heart valves for the prevention of dystrophic calcification.-Conducted pre-clinical studies on rats and rabbits. Performed animal surgery.-Developed mechanistic understanding of chemical stabilization-Mechanical testing (including rheological and quasi-static testing)-Surface studies with atomic force microscopy-Conducted In vitro cell culture assays modeling dystrophic calcification

Managed the lab procedure for extracting functional beta islet cells from donor pancreata. This was a lead role requiring 24 hour on-call availability.This was a side job undertaken during graduate school.
