The design system consisted of a design token library, icon library with React and plain SVG output, a React component library, and custom documentation site.Created a mono-repo for all code related to the design system.Created a tech plan to migrate from a PHP monolith to a micro-service architecture for front-end code..Presented on and educated the organization on advanced front-end techniques.Mentored junior developers on the team.

Key contributor on the product details page to optimize the layout, performance, and functionality of both old and new features. Mentored and provided code reviews for the junior members of the team. Worked closely with leadership to run and maintain a Front-end community of practice.

Managed 3 teams of 4-6 people to guide and implement key strategic initiatives at the company. Before the transition to the new management model, led a single team of engineers from product inception to completion.Piloted the Software Development Manager position at Overstock to a more industry standard model of engineering management.Implemented new processes to track team morale and identify areas of improvement, including a monthly team health check and comprehensive team charter.Took what was a manual process for updating hundreds of marketing pages and made it into an automated process utilizing Overstock’s home grown CMS.We were one of the first teams to create a Node.js/React microservice for client-facing code. This was especially tricky because it was the site header and needed to handle full site traffic load. Since then nearly all parts of that team’s codebase is in Node powered microservices.

Led a team of junior developers for the marketing department, including a team of 9 engineers and 1 QA. Updated weekly marketing landing pages, sale callouts throughout the site, and wrote the code for the daily email campaigns.Created reusable templates using handlebars for email creation cutting the development time in half.Created basic CMS to expedite the creation of static marketing pages that was later used as the base for a company wide CMS system.Hired 7 new front-end developers that all went on to become senior level or higher engineers at the company.

Was one of the few members of the company’s initiative to revamp and modernize their front-end code base. Worked on various pages throughout the site to implement new features, optimize key features, and maintain older code.Oversaw the migration from legacy jQuery to the new version at the time.Turned the cart page from a static experience where every change required a full page refresh, to one that updated inline using handlebars and secure API requests. This led to a 2.5% increase in conversions.
