Organizations within and outside Government have an increasing need to fully expedite their business processes electronically. One of the aspects which has come up, is digital signing of documents within the business processes. The circumstances under which the signature is placed determine the reliability and weight of evidence of the document. To keep the evidence of the document for a longerperiod (decades) an other issue to be solved is the longtermpreservation of the records and the embedded digital signatures (certificates). In short digital signing should be compliant to law and businessrules and auditable too.For the department of Justice (JusID) I was responsible for defining business and archiving requirements in order to select the right solution as core of the service. This software had to be compliant to international standards like XaDES, PaDES, PKI en Oasis DSS ETSI.

Civilian acts created during the 1980's fased an severe issue of damage due to used paper and ink. In order to stop the further increase of the damage it was decided to scan all civilian acts from 1980 until now and store them in a central record management application.
