Early YearsAs the son of self-employed parents, Hugh started his business training at around 10 years old. Working in his parent's grocery store, he began learning about retail signage and ad copy. In school, his academic interests included writing, grammar, literature, math, science, and geography.UniversityHugh began his collegiate education by majoring in pre-medicine before changing to Marketing Management, a subject he naturally enjoyed and understood. He lived for several years in the Theta Chi fraternity house at Old Dominion University and made many friends that he still connects with today.Work LifeAfter college graduation, Hugh didn’t initially find his ideal marketing role. However, he succeeded in retail sales management and progressed into more technical sales positions, including those that overlapped with information technology and advertising.Back to Marketing RootsHugh volunteered for non-profit organizations and learned that digital marketing knowledge was in short supply. At this time, he began to immerse himself deeper in this field. In January 2022, Hugh accepted a position as a Digital Marketing Specialist with Softype, a company with no marketing department. Hugh took over the SEO and Content Management functions which Softype previously outsourced. When Hugh left Softype, he was replaced by 2 full-time employees whom he trained before his departure. He also edited and proofread all site content. The new Softype.com website went live on November 25, 2022.Career UpdateHugh resigned from Softype, effective April 2023. Currently, he is pursuing other full-time work and part-time freelance opportunities.
