In 2018, at the young age of 32, I was finally able to participate in an experience I've been dreaming about for years: competing in the New York Marathon. Now, if you know me, this doesn't seem like a big deal; I've been running for most of my life! I even ran Track and Field in college for the #1 track program in the nation. The only difference between then and now is that I was always a sprinter, so running 26 miles (or anything longer than 400 meters) seemed like an impossible feat, a lofty dream. It was outside of my experience and leagues away from my comfort zone. However, I was determined to do something challenging; I wanted to reinvent myself and push past the limitations I saw for myself. I trained, picked myself up when it was too hard, reached out to family and friends for support, and 4 years and many 5ks/half marathons later I happily proved myself wrong. I want to continue to be that person: the one who looks at challenges, acknowledges the difficulty and contrariety of it all, then goes for it anyway. I want to continue to fight for, strive for, and put in the time to continually create a better version of myself. If you’re interested in collaborating or working together (or hearing about my latest 'Mission Impossible'), please reach out via email (hubertalexandermitchell@gmail.com).
