After an initial career in Industry, Hugh pursued a career in Management Consulting, specialising in delivering profit improvement programmes and conducting numerous Commercial and Strategic reviews of businesses for both Corporate and Private Equity investors. Hugh then went on to create and lead 3 new businesses for PwC. Specifically -1. Corporate Turnaround and Recovery. PWC built a market share leading position, defined as working on 60% of all large and complex lending positions, reviewing businesses for banks and PE houses, to identify and deliver company survival and restructuring options. (Hugh subsequently returned to this market during the 2007 20010 Credit Crunch and worked on several high profile restructurings)2. Corporate Finance M&A. Following on from the 90`s recession Hugh went on to build the CF Mergers & Acquisitions business of PwC, taking it to the UK`s number one mid market advisor within 3 years both in terms of total value of transactions and number of deals done. Winning numerous market awards, for example:• Advisor of the Year 2001• European Mid market Advisor of the Year 2002Building on the success in UK/EU M&A, Hugh then went on to integrate and refocus the CF pan European M&A business, and the Global network, to create PwC`s Global cross-border deals business.3. Corporate Finance Debt Advisory. In the last 3 years at PwC Hugh launched the PwC Corporate Finance debt advisory offering, raising debt both for corporate refinancing situations and M&A deals. As the credit crunch arrived in the aftermath of Lehman`s collapse in 2007- 2010, the debt advisory team skills were then used to advise on several high-profile debt restructurings.
