Trained as a teacher initially; have worked in the media and communications (Mostly TV and Radio, sport and journalism) since first graduating in 1978/9. Experienced in all sorts of communication platforms and challenging environments. Used to fire-fighting with words. Extensive community engagement skills with a wide range of contacts in sport, business and other areas. Was the first Sportswriter in Residence at National Library of Scotland and working with Academy of Sport, Edinburgh University, and Sport Heritage Scotland developing sporting memory projects and presenting Shinty's Heroes with some guy Innes. Still looking to do plenty before hanging up the laptop with plenty to contribute. Looks like my golf will be taking up the slack after September 2023. Said farewell to Glasgow Warriors who kept me busy as Stadium Announcer but have renewed my hello with a Season ticket. Highly experienced speaker in public from academic lecturing to historical talks on all sorts of things, mostly sports related and sometimes in Gaelic. Was a Director at Sporting Heritage UK for 7 years helping with Scottish activities and an Hon Fellow in Academy of Sport at University of Edinburgh. Am now formerly and properly retired having completed all my broadcasting commitments. Was Awarded the Camanachd Association's Centenary award by themselves and Mowi and also received an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Aberdeen (DUniv). It's been quite the end to my formal career. Have reduced the size of my filofax. Eternally Grateful to the guys and gals at Forth Valley Hospital for keeping me going.
